My Week

Wow I’ve really been neglecting this blog lately haven’t I?  What can I say other than life gets in the way of computer time. Let’s see ~~ this week found me in the chair of pain at the dentist and trying on bikini’s, both NOT FUN!! Let’s  start with the dentist. I will preface this by saying I take good care of my teeth but like many baby boomers we find ourselves with those “aging” silver fillings (amalgam). Need I say more? Doing absolutely nothing other than dunking a cookie in my morning coffee I felt something hard in my mouth. Much to my horror it was a piece of a back molar! Yep an old filling cracked right down the middle! So this week I had step I of a new crown which is the painful part. Thank God I didn’t need a root canal, have never had one and hope I never do! The temporary is on now and the soreness is mostly gone. Now wait for the real $1200 crown to come in from the dental lab which should be in about 2-3 weeks. I didn’t even ask what insurance pays but I think about half. I can think of so many better ways to spend our money but oh well.

Bathing suit shopping……..no matter what age for a female this ranks right up there on the list of activities I don’t want to do. The older one becomes the higher it moves up on the list. But since I am going on vacation fairly soon I had to face the glaring lights in that awful dressing room. I had already gone to my local mall and tried on at least 10 or more that I didn’t like!

Most of you know my husband divides his time between “here and there”. Well he flew in on Wednesday, took the day off and from the airport we went to Somerset Collection. It’s a very upscale mall that has wonderful shopping and restaurants.  So we get there and we are on a mission, bathing suit shopping for both of us! I warn him several times in the car, “this is not going to be fun” are you sure you want to do this? He assures me he does. I also warn him more than once, DO NOT EXPECT me to walk out of the dressing room and model these for you! He got my drift…in other words, don’t piss her off because she is not a happy camper about this.

Expecting a horrible repeat of my previous unsuccessful attempt we go into ‘Everything but Water’. We had an excellent sales clerk and I head off to the dressing room with a bundle of bikinis. Mind you it’s early Wednesday afternoon and there are not many shoppers in there. She asks us would you like the big dressing room and you can go in with her? Of course my husband says YES! and I say NO. So off I go to the smaller dressing room which is a huge pain trying to tie all those damn ties on the top. She tells me again, “it really is ok, you can share a dressing room”. So I agree and off I move to the “deluxe suite” that husbands are allowed in LOL. Of course he’s loving this! I must admit he was a huge help…almost as a good as a girlfriend tying the strings and answering the never ending, “how does this make my butt, boobs look”? I picked out a fun one by Lucky Brand and he falls in love with this very classy, skimpy black Calvin Klein. Of course I get both :-)

Next stop….Tommy Bahama for him. How nice to be a man. Go into a store, look at the trunks….S M L no top size, no bottom size just one size to worry about. Well he picks out a tropical pair and I like another. So I say try on both. Meanwhile when we walked into the store a manikin in the women’s section had a beautiful silk sundress that he pointed out to me. I was not in the mood to try on anything else buy he insisted. So once again the sales clerk puts us in the couple room! I am not believing this day with the shared dressing rooms. He gets both (the ones I picked out are the best though) and I agree he has excellent taste in the dress! I never would have tried it on had he not been with me. And yes I got that too…at his insistance of course. The snug fitting busty thing with no bra is not what I usually wear here in Michigan, but what the hell it’s warm where I’m going!

That’s the end of my shopping for now, saving the rest of the money for St.Martin which is duty free :-)

I buy Suzy swim suits she never wears. I do like to find her stuff she likes and I succeed about one out of every three tries. Then she keeps the stuff till it’s almost dust.

I pay extra for a very good dentist. We’ve had a number of crowns now and there is no pain. I think that is worth an extra hundred dollars or two. Suzy agrees. :o )

Ahhh two of my most dreadest things…the dentist and trying on bathing suits. lol
You’re lucky to have never had a root canal! I’ve had 3-4..I’ve lost count. I take care of my teeth and can’t stand to leave the house to even go outside in the yard without brushing first. I guess I just inherited bad teeth.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen an couples dressing room. Sounds like it worked for you though with 2 new suits and a new sundress! You’ll be catching those rays soon!

    Hi Elaine :-)

I enjoyed clicking on the links of The Somerset Collection, Everything But Water, and Tommy Bahama. What great locales!

Though the start of a shopping day is never fun thinking one has to wander around and wondering if you will have luck finding the right things, the outcome is so nice coming home with those perfect purchases. Congrats to you both for finding just the right bathing suits — your vacation has started in a way :-)

What a refreshing thought, it’s bathing suit season. I still think you should find room in your suitcase for me.

Hey Elaine..yes the kitties are OK. Sadie too. They eat Meow Mix (even Sadie) and the Meow Mix website has helped ease my mind on the recall. I do love my critters and I TG they’re ok. There are so many who have lost their pets to this fiasco.

    Hello Elaine,
I’ve never heard of a couples room …. but that is pretty cool I would say… cause I hate walking out there for him to see and SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE. GRRRR… hehehe..
I’m glad you found something you like and your hubby does too. Very smart to get both.. I’m sure you look great in both.
As for the dentist.. YUCK!!! I hate going. I just recently had some work done and found a dentist that his whole office is like being on Extreme Makeover. It sure made the whole going to the dentist much more pleasent. hehe.. Good to hear from you again. Vallerie

Hi Elaine, you had a busy week I can tell. I just got home 2 hrs ago. The trip was great, like I said God had the wheel. The weather was nice all the way to Virginia, we drove 15 hrs the first day. Next day was rain most of the way till we hit Pensylvania. It’s really nice in Canada, so I came back on a good day. Thanks for visiting and the prayer for the safe return. God always listens. Let me know when you are leaving for your vacation. Luv, Pauline

So sorry about the tooth. I don’t envy you there, but glad you didn’t have to have a root canal, either. I have heard they are horrible. I’m with you, though… I’ve never had to have one, and I NEVER want to!

Also glad to hear you found a bikini you liked(two in fact). Hope you have a great vaca! :)

  12. Janet says:

Sounds like you’re ready for that trip! All’s well that ends well. :)

Warm weather, bathing suits, vacation and malls! I haven’t seen a mall since I moved up to Vermont from the south shore of CT ten years ago.

You want to talk about envy? I’m surprised this comment isn’t green :P

    What a week Elaine!
I always look at the Technorati tags first, before I read the blog posting, to try and predict what the post may be about. You can’t imagine what went through my mind when I read tha tags of dentists, pain, shopping, bikinis, and St. Martin! My thoughts were of dentists in St. Martin wearing bikinis to reduce procedural pain and help the patients focus on what spring apparel to buy at the mall after their dental appointments. :-) I guess I was a little bit off on my prediction, but all is good…I really can’t imagine myself in a private dressing room with my dentist ;-)
