Saturday Happenings

You know there’s something just plain wrong with 88 – 90° in October in MICHIGAN! What another hot one we had. Here it is after 5:00 PM and it’s still 86°!! I want to be wearing jeans and sweaters not shorts, summer tops, and sandals!

Do you like going to Home Depot? We were out and about today and had to stop in there to pick up something that needed to be replaced in a ceiling light fixture. It’s amazing how men understand the lingo and know exactly what the hell it is you’re looking for. My husband pulls out this part (from his pocket) he needs replaced, describes the problem to the guy using his hands, “this goes into the ceiling, screws into this, dome goes over…….blah blah blah” and the guy knew exactly what he was talking about. So now we look at these screws, bolts or whatever it is for the next 10 minutes discussing how best to fix this problem. Or we could have just bought a whole new light fixture. But if we did that it wouldn’t match the other ceiling lights upstairs. Decisions decisions. Since I don’t like things being mis-matched I told him please just fix it.

The license plate came in yesterday for my new vehicle. I’ve had the Santa Fe for a week now and am really liking it!! Very quiet and smooth ride. If it ever gets cold I’m sure I’ll appreciate the heated seats too but right now looks like global warming is here to stay! Hub is in the garage now giving it’s first hand wax…yep 86° and he’s waxing a vehicle ;-) . By the way mine is a dark metallic blue, not the light green pictured above.

Hope you’re all having a good weekend and staying cool or warm whatever the case may be 8) .

Hot one here in Ct. today, too. And we could sure use some rain.
I’d rather shop at our local hardware store rather than hitting Home Depot or Lowes. Those places are just too darn big for me. Can never find what I want and oftentimes even more frustrating trying to hunt someone down to help. I think they’re good for big projects for best price and selection, but that’s about it. :-p
Enjoy your new vehicle now! :-)

    Elaine,

Nice vehicle…congratulations! Talked with friends in VA and they were in the 90′s the other day. I can remember those Indian Summer Days from the East. We had snow yesterday but it all melted pretty quick. Hope you, and yours, have a great weekend!

    Love and Hugs,
    Beth

Did you know that Home Depot won’t “work” with the State in times of disaster? Lowes actually opens it’s own Emergency Operations Center when a disaster strikes and starts shipping necessary supplies to the affected areas. Certainly changes my mind about Home Depot.

  4. Elaine says:

Janet – I don’t think we have any local hardware stores left. Same with the little bookstore that was downtown. All gone because the big chains came in like Home Depot, Lowes, Barnes & Nobles. Sad huh?

Beth – Thanks! so far turning out to be a great vehicle. Can’t believe you had snow already. WOW! Hope the cooler temps are bringing you some relief with your allergies.

Darla – NO I didn’t know that! Guessing most people don’t. Wonder why they won’t work with States in times of Disasters? I’ll see what I can dig up on this. Thanks for telling us.

I am in shock that you and your husband actually found some one to assist you in Home Depot! Where I live, all the employees seem to go into hiding or revert to stunned silence when help is required. It’s kind of a self service store. And when I do locate someone who wears an employee badge, we are both equally perplexed as to the whereabouts of what I’m looking for.

“It’s amazing how men understand the lingo and know exactly…”

LOL. Oh, I could think up a funny blog about that line vis-a-vis men and women.

The Home Depot is also very good just to stop in for buying all the normal household cleaning supplies in order to save $. The containers of many of the regular brand name products are sometimes larger than found in local supermarkets and the prices are lower I’ve noticed.

  7. Laoch says:

Sharp vehicle! Heated seats! That makes me think of my first car, a Chevy Nova, (nova in Spanish is no go!). The nova had no working heat at all!

  8. Footprints says:

    Elaine,
Could you persuade mr. sun to pay a brief visit in British Columbia? He has been neglecting us here as it has been raining since yesterday. Next week forecast?? Another round of rains :(
About the Home depot: as used to be a seasonal gardener, I relied a lot on the advice of their garden specialists. They were quite helpful.
Yeah, around ‘here’, I also hardly can find locally owned hardware stores. I guess it’s rather hard to stay competitive against those big box chain stores.
    Take care there ~ Annita.

  9. Kimmy says:

Hey nice car Elaine! I love the Santa Fe’s too. We don’t have a Home Depot close by (45 minutes away) but we do have a Lowe’s. They’re pretty educated in their “whatjamacalits”. I hate it when I get an employee who knows less about what I’m looking for than I do. lol

  10. Karen says:

Great car! Glad you’re enjoying it!
As for the weather, we didn’t have a summer over here in Hamburg, and it’s even less like summer now. I’d be glad to send you some of our chill and get some of your warm temps back!

Hello. We’ve been affected by unseasonably warm temperatures in New York (I’m on Long Island) also for the past week or so. I’ve been told that by the end of this week, is going to start to feel like autumn. As far as Home Depot is concerned, you and you husband must have spoken to an Angel at the store you visited, because the Home Depot by me is populated by ghosts. You see them, but when you get near enough to ask a question, they go “poof.” Also, you can’t get anyone who knows anything about whatever problem you’re having. The typical response I get from a Home Depot employee, (assuming I am successful in finding one) is that “I don’t work in that aisle. I laugh at the commercials where a young father wanders in a HD store, wide eyed and bewildered as he wants to build a tree house for his son. A friendly, helpful HD employee not only helps him, but he guides him through the entire process of designing it, measuring and cutting wood, nailing the pieces together, until Ta Da! the guy’s son has a tree house. I like the Santa Fe, very sporty. I’ll have to check them out. It’s nice to meet you, and I’ve bookmarked your blog to come back for more.

  12. Elaine says:

Keli – thanks for stopping in. Guess I am lucky, our Home Depot always is well staffed and plenty of people asking if you need help.
Nooner – never looked at any of the cleaning supplies there but will check it out next time I’m there.
Laoch – my older brother had a Chevy Nova too. A dark green ugly looking thing as I remember it. And a manual! So of course I couldn’t drive it :( .
Annita- thanks for stopping in. Our hot weather is suppose to end tomorrow after another record breaking heat wave today. Wish I could have sent you some of the hot rays 8)
Kimmy – I like Lowes, Home Depot is closer so I usually end up going there. The Santa Fe will be nice when the snow starts flying ;)
Karen – wish I could have sent you the heat today! It’s about to end though and get much much colder in the next few days. Have the feeling I will be going from AC to heat all in the same week.
Mr.Grudge – thanks for stopping by, glad you found my little space on the web. Interesting comment about Home Depot, others said the same thing. Yet the one I go to is very well staffed with knowledgeable personnel. Maybe because they ran out all the small business competitors :(
