For all of you who have been following the progress of little Poco (and his reaction to shots) here’s the latest. Can you believe he will soon be 5 months? July 5th is when we picked him up as a tiny 8 week old puppy.
Today he got his last shot!! OMG only me with horrible allergies could pick out a little guy who damn near died from his puppy shots! Every shot pre-medicated with IM benadryl, then the vaccine, then 24 hours of children’s benadryl orally.
Here’s the latest ~~ weighs a little under 4½ lbs and probably won’t get much bigger, maybe 5 lbs but doubtful unless I make him fat which I won’t. He’s been a challenge to train (that alpha male thing). He still hates the leash, loves to run and run and run in our yard. He listens to commands, sits, does not beg for food, knows how to sit pretty (on his haunches) for a treat. And of course knows how to give Mommy a kiss. He also loves to steal any article of clothing within his reach. No bra, no sock tossed on the bedroom chair is safe. Off it goes under the big 4 poster bed where he loves to hide “stuff”. Sometimes I have to laugh when I pick up the dust ruffle and look under the bed…assortment of toys and always something he managed to snatch from “us”.
From USA Today — Pampering our pets
In 1994 Americans spent $17 billion on their pets
So far in 2007 we have spent $40 billion
I don’t know about you, but my little guy is well worth it, and obviously most of us feel the same way about our pets. And with that said……off to hit the couch with my little buddy and 2 ml of benadryl waiting for him for him in 2 hours.

Nice to hear that the little fellow is doing well.
Elaine,
In my city, we have what is known as a “Blessing of the animals” It started at Duke University Chapel years ago and now other churches are starting to do it as well. When I was in television news, I covered one of the ceremonies and you should’ve seen all of the dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbels and family pets dressed up in their Sunday best for the occasion. It was an interesting site to witness.
The “stealing” of clothes items, along with his toys, to bring them all to one place under the bed has to be reason enough to love him so much. What a great pleasure you have had with Poco these last few months.

Hi Elaine, Im so glad to see Poco is doing so well. Having a little thing like this around always bring so much joy. Enjoy your little Poco, here I have my big cat, but she’s not fun, she’s rather boring, lol. It’s nice to have people like you who love animals and take care of them. Have a great weekend my dear, hugs, Pauline
Laoch – thanks! me too after the rocky beginning.
Beverly – what a nice ceremony, I can imagine all the animals in their Sunday best
Nooner – I’m very happy to have him! Even if he does take off like a thief in the night with whatever article of clothing he’s able to grab.
Pauline – good to see you again, I think cats are mysterious. You have a great weekend too
Elaine,
Poco is such a cutey! I can see why he loves his people so much as to want their things and scent near him. Please share as many pictures of him as you can!
Love and Hugs,
Beth
I totally agree! Our pets are worth it! Little Poco is lucky to have you as a mom.
