Well if you want to live in the world’s most desirable country you’re going to have to move to Iceland. The annual report ranks 175 UN member countries plus Hong Kong and the Palestinian territories, but does not include 17 countries about which there was inadequate data, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.
Norway was knocked out of the top spot for the first time in six years and landed at number two on the list, followed by Australia, Canada and Ireland. The United States slipped to 12th place from eighth last year.
The index rates life expectancy, educational levels and real per capita income. The United States scores high on real per capita income, at $41,890 is second only to that of Luxembourg ($60,228), but less well on life expectancy — joint last in the top 26 countries, along with Denmark and South Korea, at 77.9 years. Japanese have the longest life expectancy — 82.3 years, and Zambians the lowest, at 40.5.
AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states occupied the lowest rankings of the UN Human Development Index. In 10 of these countries, two children in five will not reach the age of 40.
The actual tests of comptia a+ are much complex for a ccie or even an mcse professional if not prepared from testking notes.

Your site is all ready for the holidays, looks great!
Those facts don’t surprise me that much. I’m not sure that I’d want to live in Iceland but if I didn’t have to fly there to get there, I’d sure like to visit. One can’t live there with Jus sanguinis, guess that could be why is so desirable.
Where these judges sleeping ??? They have probably never been to Switzerland….
Not sure about Iceland, that’s a lovely xmas message.
I just voted in the China toys poll, only last week my wife discarded several toys which were earmarked as gifts for xmas because they were made in China.
Take care Elaine
I wonder how they came to the conclusion that Iceland is the most desirable. There are many nice things about the place, but I’ve visited and the weather is brutal. In addition, there’s a ton of alcoholism. We saw drunken men staggering down the streets of Reykjavik.
Hi Elaine,
That’s one beautiful header you’ve put up but then again, all your headers are beautiful.
Iceland hmm? Well…I think I’ll stay right here in good old northern Vermont. Get’s plenty enough icy for me already. Even with global warming.
Interesting data!
Makes me want to at least “visit” Denmark and Iceland as a vacation stop some day!
I like the survey sez gadget on your site; very nice. I tend to look at the ‘best of’ surveys with a jaundiced eye. There are little pockets of wonderfulness worldwide that never get considered.
)
Very interesting! I’m curious as to why Iceland came out on top? Maybe more intelligent people live there (that would be included in my criteria!).
With the wind-chill in Chicago at 6F today Tahiti sounds a lot more inviting than Iceland. Thanks for a thought-provoking entry though.

Wonderful quote!
…and the view from your kitchen is breathtaking.
janeywan – thanks! yes I’ve been decorating
Don’t think I could live there either, MI is cold enough.
Bill – thanks for stopping in. Guess they haven’t been to Switzerland. Remember this was a UN report so take that into consideration.
Ottavio – every night I hear on the news…Americans trying to find American made toys. And I’m sure it’s no different in your country. Safety of our children’s toys is a must.
Rhea – interesting that you’ve been there! Like I said to Bill, this is an UN report that comes out yearly so I would take it with a grain of salt.
Kirk – glad you like the new “do”. I hear ya my friend, plenty of cold and frigid temps here, I don’t want to go any colder.
Nooner – I think it would be a beautiful part of the world to visit! So many places to see and so little time.
Grandalfe – so true! once again this was an UN report
Keli – lol I like your analysis there. The UN based it’s report on those 3 criteria mentioned.
Bill - I’m right with you……other side of the lake in MI, was brutal today! Warm sounds good right about now. Thanks for stopping in.
Karen – thanks! I could take so many photos but I don’t. Wish I had your ability with the camera. It really is so pretty where I live.
Elaine,
UN report? I’ll take it with a grain of salt. It is just one grain.
Love and hugs,
Beth
Hmm Iceland..I think of snow and cold. Brr.. I’ll take Australia as my top pick! Everywhere you go on this planet..there’s always something beautiful to discover. I hope to keep discovering for many years. Maybe I’ll make it to Australia one day.
