Well folks we’re getting closer. Who’s done with all their shopping? Not me, but I never am till the last minute. However, I am well on my way of almost being done. Which brings me to the next topic. Malls, crowds, people, coughing and sneezing and spreading germs everywhere we go. Instead of asking who’s naughty or nice I want to ask who’s staying healthy or not? We all know co-workers, our own family members, friends who are sick, been sick or recovering. You hear all the time from the experts….wash your hands! Here are a few more tips from me that I follow religiously.
- When in malls don’t touch that nasty black handrail on an escalator unless you really need to for balance. Better yet, take the steps next to it and burn a few calories. That rail is loaded with germs.
- Be aware of what your hands are touching, be it money, grocery cart, surfaces etc.
- Now this is a biggie…. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth when out in a public place, your hands are loaded with germs and easily latch on to these mucous membranes.
- Public bathrooms another nasty place that unfortunately we all have to visit. When you wash your hands, get some paper towels first and tuck under your arm. Wash your hands thoroughly, dry your hands and turn off the faucet with the paper towels. If possible push open the bathroom door with your elbow as opposed to those clean hands.
- When you come home from the grocery or you’ve been out in public, get in the habit of washing your hands immediately once you’re home. I walk into the kitchen, drop my purse, car keys and coat then proceed directly to the sink and wash my hands before doing anything else.
- You’ve all heard the rest of the list, get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet and avoid stress to promote a healthy immune system. Of course in the rush of the holiday season these are easier said than done.
To all those who are sick I wish you a speedy recovery and to those who are not, I pray you stay that way.
Just remember…eyes…nose…mouth…try not to touch when out in public.

Hi! I read this with great interest. I agree that we should watch out for things that may harm us. But having said that we do need bacteria to boost our immune systems to cope with everyday life. It’s great to keep things clean but are we harming ourselves and our children by being perhaps too over zealous on this issue. Food for thought. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Regards Peter – Sydney Australia
All these tips I already do, I’m a terrible germaphobe. If we all just did the same thing, think of all the sickness that could be prevented.
Sorry Elaine that OpenId is working for you, I’m still investigating just how it does work.
Great advice. I’ve been doing all that for ages. I also make sure to get a flu shot every year now, and that seems to keep me healthier as well. Hope you stay healthy this year!
great advice to follow. I would mention, imo, that when at home, I think people overdo it with the cleaning antibacterial chemicals which I think do more harm than good.
