Healthy wallet or waistline

I thought this was pretty interesting reported by reuters.

After a year of record mortgage foreclosures and slumping home prices, Americans are more determined to shape up their flabby finances in 2008 than their bodies, according to a study released by Countrywide Bank on Tuesday.

Some 67 percent of the 1,002 adults surveyed nationwide said that becoming financially fit is a top New Year’s resolution, while 57 percent are committed to becoming physically fit in 2008.

This report really does not surprise me in light of the current economy and fears of a recession in 2008. However I think people can do both, work at becoming more financially solvent and physically fit. What’s the point of having a nice fat bank account if you’re too unhealthy to reap the benefits?

Maybe that should be our goal for 2008. Trim our debt and our waistline, not one or the other.

    Elaine,

Yes, both are important to me, as well. We can do without certain things, until we can afford them, but losing health can’t be replaced by things. I always enjoy your side-column facts and info. Wishing you, your family, and Poco, a joyful Christmas, with the richest blessings of togetherness, health, peace, and love!

    Love and hugs,
    Beth

It’s good to hear that people are getting scared about their finances. There is too much debt in this country. Hey, Happy Holidays to you!

  4. Both are important aren’t they?
The average home loan in Australia is now $240,300 and the average waistline is well, too big…
    Trimming both is advisable…

    Hi Elaine,
You can’t be wealthy if you’re dead from a heart attack. I’m all for health before wealth. Have a very happy and healthy and a very, very Merry Christmas! See you after the new year. -Mike.

Rhea – and the credit card companies make it easy for those who can least afford it to get sucked in by easy credit. Wishing you a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year.
