Winter Woes

24 hours later the first major winter storm is over and it was a doozy! I went to bed last night with howling winds and the snow coming down fast and furious. Awoke this morning to the same howling winds pummeling the house.  I stay in my nice warm bed dreading what would come next…getting little Poco outside in this stuff!

I pull on sweatpants, hoodie, warm socks and with Poco in hand head downstairs to take my first look outside. We stop at the front door and look out the side panel windows…forget going out of the house that way, snow is thigh deep in some areas.  Next we head to the garage where there is a back door that leads  outside. Open the door and there is maybe a half foot of snow up against the door but past the drift it wasn’t nearly as bad as the front of the house. Poco takes one look and tries to run back to the kitchen door LOL. I know his tricks though so that door is closed and he must stand in the freezing garage while I clear out enough snow for him to do “his business”.  Finally I have a little area cleared for him and pick him up and set him outside in the howling wind. He tries to run inside again. With hoodie over my head I tell him we’re staying out here till you GO! He fights it  no longer and does what he’s suppose to do!

Back into the kitchen I get the coffee going and turn on the TV in the family room to the Weather Channel. Much to my surprise Jim Cantore is covering the Michigan storm.  I’ve seen him all over the United States covering storms but never in my neck of the woods.  We settle in for a long day of snow and high winds.  By late afternoon it started to die down and we are left with blowing snow advisory until midnight.

Our snow plow service just got to our house and I’m sure they’ve been working since last night.  The subdivision is still not plowed and I doubt it will be until tomorrow. I live in a township and the county plows the sub after all the main roads are done, so we’re last on the list of importance of course.

I’ve been online looking for a warm escape in January. Cancun is sounding pretty good right about now.

It is always bad when Jim Cantore shows up at your town. Be safe!

Oh yes Cancun sounds heavenly. Aren’t you glad you don’t need to do your business outside like poor little poco?
