Finding the perfect pair (or brand) of jeans has to rank high on the frustration list of trying on clothes! And let’s face it ~~ jeans are a staple in most peoples wardrobe. One of my pet peeve about women’s designer jeans is they come in one length, usually a 34. Well being 5’3 a 34″ inseam isn’t going to work which means I then have to pay for alterations to have them shortened. That doesn’t seem fair, men don’t have to pay for alterations. My husband goes to Nordstrom’s buys the same brand of jeans that I buy and he pays nothing other than the price of the jeans.
I got turned on to 7 for all mankind a couple of years ago and have been buying them ever since. They are expensive but they last and wear well, look fantastic on once you find the right style for your body so I don’t mind the price. An added bonus they are made in the USA!! Out shopping this weekend I wandered into my favorite boutique “Impulse” in Brighton, MI. The owner (Gail) knows me, she’s the one who turned me on to this brand originally. She also knows I’m weird about jeans being too tight or too low. Yet I’ve been told enough times something I’m wearing is too baggy. “You have slender legs, your jeans should fit your thigh and your butt”. She’s had an uphill battle with me but I finally wear jeans that fit my body the way they should.
So back to shopping. 7 for all mankind has a new jean out this season called flip flop, they’re made shorter instead of the usual 34″ they’re 30″ meant to be worn with summer flip flops. YEA!!!! Which means for me they don’t have to be altered! They also are more slender fitting in the thigh which I need. Then I tried on a pair of crop pants (same brand) and those fit so I had to get both.
I then made the mistake of telling Gail I needed a “fun belt” to wear with these jeans. I have plenty of black ones, brown ones, boring ones, but wanted a fun belt. She brings me an Ed Hardy belt to try on, what can I say? Other than it looks great and I bought that too. Topping off the shopping spree the staple that every woman has in her wardrobe, the black tee. Seems they never last long enough before they fade and need to be replaced. Michael Stars is a good brand and comes in every color imaginable.
That’s it for me, I’m done shopping for awhile. Oh by the way, Citizens of Humanity is another brand I like and made in the USA if that’s important to you. Thanks to my husband for finding those for me

Your welcome! Not only did I find them for you on my own, I purchased them for you too. OH! Let me count the ways!
Never let it be said that I don’t listen, when you stated you couldn’t find jeans, I went out on my own and found those for you.

Wasn’t a fan of tight clothes or jeans even in my Hippie years. Wore them to be in style, till I had my children, when I cared less about style and more about comfort. Must have always had fibromyalgia type problems but didn’t know it. It got worse after having my children, and as I have been petite for most of my life, and got back in shape after having my children, it wasn’t because of weight problems. At my smallest, 98 pounds, I still could not stand to have tighness, or fitted clothing around my waist or hip area. Especially no waist bands. There would be red and itchy soreness to follow and it would get worse through the years.
If I am gardening, or working in the yard, I borrow my husband’s old jeans, which have no bands, and fit differently on my hips, and can be tolerated for the day. He gets a kick out of how he needs a belt to hold them up and I don’t…lol.
So glad that you don’t have problems like that, Elaine.
7′s and rock and republics are my favorite, i dont care how much they cost, they are worth it, they fit so perfectly and make me feel sexy as hell. i dont understand how people spend big money on dresses or suits they hardly ever wear and then by cheap horrible looking and fitting jeans that they put on at least twice a week.
just finished my article on 1950′s fashion, the decade of the jeans…cool coincidence
Glad to hear about the 7′s and am goingtotry them! Heidi
I love 7s – they are the best fit! I always look for jeans and clothes made in the USA. 7s are more expensive, but they seem to last forever. I also like AG (Adriana Goldschmidt) jeans, another USA made brand and Michael Stars shirts are great too!
Gino – I am a lucky woman no doubt about that
Beth – that sounds like you had severe allergies way back then. Do you still break out in rashes with certain fabrics?
Oscar – will have to pop over and read your blog on jeans. I agree a good pair of jeans does make you feel sexy (male or female).
Heidi – I’m guessing you’ll like them if you ever try them on. They are expensive but like others said here, worth every penny. Thanks for stopping in.
Keli – I’ve never tried AG but will try a pair on next time I’m jean shopping. And USA made, good to know, THANKS!
I never have understood why mens jeans come in waist x inseam while womens jeans are waist only. We have different proportions too!
