A Shakey kind of Morning

I’m lying in bed this morning around 5:45 and feel vibrations and hear the perfume tray on my dresser rattling like someone is walking across the bedroom floor. Of course NO one is walking in the house at all. This lasts for a few seconds this rattling sound with vibrations and I think how odd, but never gave it much thought. About 15 minutes later I reach over to the nightstand for the remote and turn on the morning news. I’ll be damned if the reporter isn’t telling us that there was an earthquake in IL 5.4 on the scale and tremors were being felt as much as 450 miles away! Well that sure explains what I was experiencing at my house.

Wishing you all a great weekend! I won’t be around much as I have company arriving today for the weekend.

    Wow…. isn’t that something??!!

  2. Laoch says:

My cat was circling the flat howling! Creepy.

I think the small shakes are fun, if a bit unnerving!
I was in Costa Rica in December talking to my landlord and my roommate when the LL and I started saying “did you feel that?” “Me too” (well, more like “lo sintieron ustedes? -Sí, fue terremoto?” But it was light enough that my roommate didn’t feel it, so he was pretty confused at the sudden shift in topics :)

Wow! Just saw a news report on it…before reading your blog…and am so glad that (from the report I saw)…there wasn’t great damage or harm. I have experienced that once in my life in VA. It is a strange sensation. So glad it didn’t turn into the kind of thing they so often have in California.

There but for the grace of God go any of us me thinks. I’m looking out my library window working on the new laptop and enjoying the sun. Oh, and Quincy Jones is doing his darnest to play the kind of music that’ll make me get up and go kiss the wife. :o )

Hope you’re having a great weekend.

I was quite “shaken up” (sorry couldn’t resist a pun) when I heard about the quakes in your area. I’m so used to feeling and hearing about them here in CA, it was so unexpected where you are. Thank goodness everything is okay!

  7. Martin Welch says:

That sounds scary! Glad everything’s fine with you. :)

  8. Nooner says:

Glad to hear you and the house are safe. Earthquakes and Tornados scare me more than anything. Glad I haven’t been in neither (knock on wood).

  9. Jennifer says:

    Mercy! Glad you’re OK, luv.

  10. Heidi says:

I remember feeling like that once when I lived in Costa Rica and its kind of a surreal felling. Glad you are okay.

  11. Jason P. says:

I felt aftershocks around 9AM as I lied in bed. I was deliverying all night and felt nothing in NW Indiana.

But when earthquakes happen in Illinois and The Cubs are hot, there is something wrong in America…;)

  12. Found your WONDERFUL site through Springboard Press and just love it. Seeing as how we boomer women all need to stick together, we invite you to peruse and giggle at our blog:

Here’s a tease video (from our Netflix video reviews) for your enjoyment:

  13. Felt a tremor in my end of the world once, I thought it was quite scary. Hope all is well, stay safe…

Thank you all for your replies and SORRY for my delayed response. I have been out of town for the last week in Washington DC. Had beautiful warm weather out there and returned to a cold (yet much greener) Michigan. Finally the trees are blooming and the grass is turning green. Now if it would only get warm!!
