Being a person who does a fair amount of air travel with spouse who does even more we’ve both had our share of sitting in airports and looking at the monitors for delays and cancellations. Forbes came out with their list of top 10 worst airports for 2007. The list was based on delays related to security, late aircraft, the national aviation system, cancellations, carrier problems and weather. The percentage of flights with on-time arrival and departures was also factored in.
- Chicago – O’Hare
- Newark, New Jersey – Newark Liberty International
- New York – Kennedy
- New York – La Guardia
- Dallas – Ft.Worth International
- San Francisco – San Francisco International
- Boston – Logan International
- Philadelphia – Philadelphia International
- Atlanta, GA. – Hartsfield-Jackson
- Minneapolis/St.Paul International
- Denver, CO – Denver International
- Detroit, MI. – Detroit Metro Wayne County
- Seattle/Tacoma WA International
- Charlotte, NC – Charlotte Douglas International
- Los Angeles CA International
- Washington DC – Dulles International
- Phoenix, AZ – Sky Harbor International
- Las Vegas, NV – McCarran International
- Miami FL International
- Washington DC – Washington National
And of course the 3 we use the most make the list

I have wasted way too much of my life in several of these airports especially Denver. They need to do something to make your stay more pleasant because they are more like motels than airports.
I don’t know how it is now, but I remember the security at Denver always taking forever. But I still wonder if all that security stuff is just window-dressing. Regardless, the golden age of flying is over.
Having lived in New Jersey for a time I can say that Newark is just terrible in terms of delays.
Seems to me it would be hard to get to just about anywhere in the US without going through one of these airports! But I hate to fly so I don’t see myself worrying about it too much! Interesting info as always, Elaine!
We must have used the same airports.
JFK is definitely #! in my book!!!
Hmm, San Francisco at #6, really? I fly in and out of San Fran pretty often and always thought the airport was pretty good. I travel international from this airport (usually), so maybe there is a difference in the experience when you travel domestic…
I’ve flown in and out of at least 6 of those listed but that was long before 9/11 and the increased security measures. Flying just seemed routine back then and any delays or long waits you knew about ahead of time.
Glad I’m not flying these these days.
Delays during flights are really annoying. But then we have nothing to do but to bear with al hose delays and hopefully one day, the authorities will realize how bad they are causing to their passengers.
I can’t stand air travel, mostly because of all the waiting. I try to fly just once or twice a year, if that.
Travel on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; odds are you’ll have a trouble-free journey.
Hope you are well.
I haven’t flown in years but I’ve been to number 5 and number 13 and can understand why they are in the top 20!
