Americans Getting More Obese
Jul 17th, 2008 by Elaine
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new report today on American obesity. It wasn’t good, Americans aren’t getting slimmer and the obesity rate continues to climb. More than a quarter of all Americans are now obese. The percentage rate grew by 2% between 2005 - 2007.
Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee had the worst rates, with 30 percent of adults reporting weights that made them medically obese.
Colorado had the slimmest population, with 18.7 percent of people reporting weights that put them in the obese category.
Southerners are the heaviest Americans, on average, with 27 percent obese. Just over 25 percent of adults in the Midwest, 23 percent in the Northeast, and 22 percent in the West were obese.
World health officials have agreed on a BMI of 30 as an easily remembered cutoff point for obesity. People are considered overweight when they have a BMI of 25.

I knew that being naturally thin would eventually pay off. Of course having to run around outside just to get a tan is a bit much I have to admit (yet who see’s me?). Most thin folks don’t have to do that to get a tan, they only have to run around in the shower to get wet.
For some reason I always thought Americans were always going to be the most obese nation but the latest studies however (my apologies I don’t have a link to the resource) shows that us Aussies are now the most obese country
It’s funny, because of my limited diet I seem to be headed the other way.
All of our lifesyles have changed so dramatically in the past 30 or so years. Seems to be doing us in.
Now, instead of changing their lifestyle, more and more Americans are resorting to unnatural way of getting slim like going for plastic and cosmetic surgeries such as - Buttocks Augmentation, Breast Reduction Surgery, Face lift, tummy tuck etc., This is startling phenomenon. Any how…Nice Article on Americans obesity. Thanks!
With the rising cost of food these days you would think the whole nation would be slimming down a bit…..!!!!!
I read somewhere that it has something to do with the fact that there are no sidewalks in certain communities. I live in one of them. Who wants to walk when you’re constantly taking your life into your own hands?
Yeah, we moved from Denver, Colorado to Port St Joe, northwest Florida, which is basically Lower Alabama, and you better believe we had culture shock. Few sidewalks, lots of pickup trucks.
And it’s obvious that some folks eat mostly fried food. It’s cheaper.
Our new location, Amelia Island, is more like what we were used to before we left Colorado.
You would think that with the price of food and gas, people might slim down a bit–and it might yet happen.
Thank you all for your comments! All the worldwide attention on obesity and it still isn’t hitting home with so many. I was in the grocery store today and was stuck behind 2 women and 2 carts (mother and daughter). Daughter looked to be in mid 20’s and mother I’m guessing late 40’s but hard to tell with very obese people. Their carts were filled to the brim with JUNK!! Not one healthy item did I see. And this young woman already had the huge rolls of fat at her midsection, guessing she was easily in the 250 range. It’s sad to see someone so young, so UNHEALTHY.
i agree with elaine thanks for the post
“Darlin Save the Last Dance for Me” by Michael Buble
and
“Don’t Stop Thinkin about Tomorrow” by Fleetwood Mac
are great walking tunes.
The thing that bugs me about all these MP3 Players is:
WHERE IS THE SEARCH FUNCTION?
Create a Playlist and down load it? Come On!
Whay can’t we just text in some kind of search for all the songs with the word “Darlin” in them and dynamically add it to our playlist.
Scrolling through thousands of tunes even alphabetically is a waste of time when the technology to do so much more is literally at our fingertips!
