My iPod/Playlist
Jul 20th, 2008 by Elaine
I’m still learning this iPod stuff. Finally a couple of weeks ago I got my iTunes account and songs moved over to the new laptop. One thing I had not done yet was create playlists. I have my iPod in a Logitech docking station in the kitchen and it’s set to play randomly which worked fine for me. I don’t even use the earphones that often unless I’m traveling by air.
Well yesterday I was on the treadmill with IPod playing. Seemed like I would have one fast upbeat song and then the next slower. Not something you want when on a treadmill! So I’m trying to hit next the entire time. Made mental note MAKE PLAYLIST!!
Making the playlist is quite simple, don’t know why I procrastinated so long in doing so. Once I started dropping songs into the Exercise playlist I soon discovered I need more songs! I added a few last night from the iTunes store but would like to add more from classic rock/rock/pop/alternative genre.
If anyone has any great songs they listen to while walking/jogging please share. Here are a few of mine: (much nicer on the treadmill today)
* I Love Rock ‘N Roll - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
* December - Collective Soul
* Chris Daughtry - Home
* One Headlight - The Wallflowers
* White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
* How to Save a Life - The Fray
* All I Wanna do - Sheryl Crow
* I’m the Only One - Melissa Etheridge
* Vogue - Madonna
* Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (not really that fast but I like the song)

I love my pod and amazingly I have about 53 gig of stuff on it!
Always something new to play with and learn from. I didn’t see Qunicy Jones’ “Belly Roll” on your play list. Just imagine the bari sax! :o)
I still love getting out in the evenings….right after the sun has fallen, or early morning, for a nice jog down the mountain trails. Sometimes, I just walk along the foothills, so beautiful. Walking right after a rainstorm, or during a light sprinkle isalways exhilerating
My playlist is a litttle different…but some tunes I listened to recently include:
Incense and Peppermint – Strawberry Alarm Clock
Far Away – Nickelback
Biggest Part of Me – Ambrosia
When Will I See You Again – The Three Degrees
Rikki Don’t Lose That Number – Steely Dan
Come Sail Away - Styx
Jazzman – Carole King
Miracles – Jefferson Starship
Sunshine Superman - Donovan
I don’t have an mp3 player but both my kids do, and they share their stuff with me, and I do have I-tunes set up as well, with playlists they make for me, as well as the ones I put together myself.
I have a Play Loud Mix (old guys like Lou Reed, youngsters like the White Stripes), a Meditative Mix (Fairport Covention and the new band Beirut), a Celtic Mix (the Chieftains), a Neo-Celtic (Dropkick Murphys and Saw Doctors), Dance Punk Indie (Le Tigre, Ratatat and the Rapture), etc etc. A good mix is essential during domestic chores, and enhances my nightly dinner cooking routine.
Laoch - wow that’s a lot! Mine is 80 GB and I haven’t begun to fill it yet. I still have much to learn with this iPod.
Grandalfe - hey, are you saying I have a belly?
Affinity - how hot is it in AZ in the evening? Normally during the summer I walk outside but lately the humidity has been horrendous so I’ve been reduced to the treadmill. Thanks for sharing your songs.
Cilicious - nice that you still have kids at home sharing their stuff with you. I agree a good mix is essential…going to check out some of your recommendations.
Elaine sez, “Gandalfe - hey, are you saying I have a belly?”
Gandalfe sez, “Um, most people do.” ;o)
Oh, and here a picture of one that kinda looks like mine.

Hi Elaine,
The summer’s are still roasters here. On “low” humidity days, the highs still get up over 110 degrees. During monsoon season, the dew point shoots up way past 55 degrees yielding cooler days, near 102 or so, and the obligatory evening mud storm (dust and rain). I still love to jog later at night, after sundown and before bedtime, weather permitting. But my favorite time of the day is early morning….cooler air, refreshing air and my iTunes. My favorite walking or hiking venue - Oak Creek Canyon, near Sedona.
I’m so glad I gave up the treadmill, it’s exactly that kind of boring (and if I must say, ineffectual) exercise that requires some kind of boredom relief like a long iPod playlist. I recommend you don’t change your playlist to something more interesting, but change your exercise regime to something more interesting!
Take a look at Crossfit.com, in 3 months you’ll be Stronger, Fitter and Faster then you’ve ever been in your life, and you’ll wonder why you wasted so much of your life on the treadmill.
Grandalfe - LOL, my husband says the same thing when we’re standing in line at the grocery store and flip through the magazines at the check out counter.
Affinity - I don’t think I could ever adust to the heat in AZ. Last 4th of July we went to Vegas for a long weekend and it was 114 when we stepped off the plane! My first time in the Southwest. My daughter and S-I-L were in Sedona 2 years ago and loved it! Came back saying, “Mom, you would love this place”. So who knows.
Martin - I agree treadmills can be boring, I rather be outside but that’s not always possible, at least it can be a decent cardio workout though. Will take a look at the site you mentioned. Thanks.
