John McCain fails first test

I’ve kept quiet about John McCain’s VP nomination that sent shockwave’s into the GOP party (of which I am a former member) but that has no bearing here. I’ve watched the news and followed the political blogs all weekend. I’ve listened to the political pundits, and talked with family and friends. How can you not talk about this? Saturday at lunch in my white GOP town a party of 6, John McCain’s age was sitting directly across from us……won’t even delve into that discussion or the man that came to our table and apologized if they got too heated and interrupted our late afternoon lunch. They were not happy! It was 5 to 1,  5 being for Obama.

John McCain failed miserably with his first executive decision which is choosing his VP running mate. To even suggest that Sarah Palin has the experience from being an Alaskan town mayor with the population the size of a lower 48 large high school is an insult to our intelligence. And her first term as Governor of 15 months she is under investigation for abuse of power.

It was a typical John McCain decision which he is noted for.  Did he honestly think this would draw in the disenfranchised Hillary supporters? I think not. Senator Clinton  is an avid crusader of women’s rights which Sarah Palin is the polar opposite. This ticket sets women back 50 years, totally disregards everything women have fought for and yet Palin reaped the benefits.  This decision was about John McCain’s ego and keeping the far right evangelical vote, not the good of the country.  He had many more qualified candidates to choose from and  he played them like puppets right up to the very end.

A well known Clint Eastwood quote which says it so succinctly:

Extremism is so easy. You’ve got your position, and that’s it. It doesn’t take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Sarah Palin may be great up there in Alaska but she has little understanding of life in the lower 48 states and world politics.  Do you really think she can go up against Putin and Ahmadinejad? This is the woman who asked what exactly does the Vice President do? This is the worst political soap opera I have ever seen in my life and the world is watching and laughing.

Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.   John McCain

Let’s hope the last 8 years are finally over and you John McCain go off into the sunset to live in one of your many houses.  You deserve it and Cindy will be thrilled to have you home all day.

John likes to gamble. This is just another of his gambles.

I fear what the Supreme Court will become if he wins.

  2. cilicious says:

As each day goes by, and I learn more about Sarah Palin’s career, I become more and more aghast. Gov Palin is not ready for prime time.

  3. Gino says:

America needs change and it appears that McCain is offering more of the same. He is rash in his judgements, imprudent and puts himself first over everything, his family and now his country! I believe he is so enamour with himself that he will do anything to be president regardless of the consequences of his decisions. His VP choice is a prime example of this.

We need intelligent individuals to now lead our country not more of the medoicre ones that have been for the last several years. I could go on but I just ask people to clear their minds of all prejudices, listen, think about what is being said and done without bias to race or religion and then choose who would be the best leader to lead this country, not on race, not on religious believes, not on gender and not on party. Good luck and God Bless America!

I agree with you 150% Elaine!

  5. Mary Walker says:

Absolutely agree. Unfortunately, Cindy won’t have to put up with John all day. He will still be a senator when, please God, he fails to gain the Presidency. He can still mess things up from there.

  6. Keli says:

I am so turned off by politicians that I have switched to the “Decline to State” party. Nothing they do surprises me anymore. I too was a GOP member at one time, but that was in the pre-Bush days. Is it too much to ask for a bit of intelligence now and then? Apparently yes.

  7. Elaine says:

Thank you all for your comments! I know it’s a hot topic on both sides of the party that gets people riled up. I can across yesterday one of the best articles I have read on McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin.

Sigh… I don’t even wanna think about it. I’ll go practice my sax now. :o (

  9. Mary says:

Yes, if you were a former GOP member before Bush, things weren’t so bad. What happened to the Reagan years? Anyway, choosing Palin was the last straw for me.

  10. Mary says:

Sarah Palin’s nomination was the last straw for me.
