First of all thank you all for your well wishes and good thoughts! It’s greatly appreciated. Whew ~~ the last 4 days have been rough (for both of us). Sunday was especially bleak and I honestly had doubts if he would pull through this, and if he did would it be a full recovery or partial? I felt guilty and responsible for this happening. Almost everything I read on Advantix side effects is what he was going through. Had I known what was in this product I never would have agreed to it! The only reason I had him treated was for a hiking trip this weekend in Maryland (which is obviously cancelled).
I am happy to tell you that he took his first normal steps today!! In the last few hours he even tried to play, though it was short lived. He seems more alert and slowly coming back to life and out of the fog he’s been cloaked in. When outside for potty breaks he was able to walk back inside by himself instead of being carried. He’s even wagged his tail and given me kisses today, believe me that’s the best kiss I could have gotten.
He still has a long way to go and it remains to be seen if he will be left with any long term negative effects. I hope and pray the rambunctious little guy that loved to go jogging with my husband will be able to do that again in the future. For right now I am very thankful, he can walk and we’ll build from there.

Good wishes to the small hound
What an unlucky dog. I guess after winning the life lottery by getting you as owners, there had to be some bad news.
I’m so glad he’s finally improving. I hope he makes a full recovery!
Thank Goodness!! If you take him hiking in the future, I suggest a good anti-flea/tick shampoo and a bath before and after. Maybe one of the old reliable flea collars?? Hope Poco recovers fully.
Laoch – Thank You!
Grandalfe – I’m still feeling like a very bad owner, he put his trust in us and we in the Vet, and we failed him.
Karen- me too!
Mary – I will never put any chemical like this on him again. We’ve had 3 Chihuahua’s since the mid 80′s, none of them were treated and none ever had a flea or tick! If Poco does recover enough to go hiking again you can be sure I’ll be looking at other options.
I am so glad that he is better!
What a rough time for him and for you.
Glad to know Poco is recovering well, it’s always wonderful to see a “family” member getting better
I had a dog once and he went through the same situation as yours, except that he had a nasty fight with the local stray dogs. He ended up with some stitches on his neck, and he was quiet and week for 3-4 days. He recovered within a week or so
That’s wonderful news! I’m sure he’ll be his old self soon.
When meds have this kind of effect on canines, it makes me wonder what they do to humans (the authentic ones anyway!)(;
Cilicious – thank you! And he’s improving every day
Uncannyman – our beloved pets do become a family member and when they hurt we hurt. Glad yours recovered from it’s injuries.
Keli – unfortunately there is much less testing to bring a pet med to market and side effects even less discussed it seems
Nice to know that he’s getting well and improving now.
How is the small hound?
James – Thank you!
Laoch – he seems back to normal but still on the Prednisone alternating days for another 2 weeks.
