- Three weeks can’t get here soon enough for me. I am tired of the news focusing ONLY on the election and the economic bailout. I am beginning to feel disconnected from the world. Case in point…the California wildfires which merits a 10 second segment on the news. When was the last time you heard any news on Iraq or Afghanistan? I’ve started turning on BCC World News America at 7:00 and how refreshing it is to hear our news from an entirely different perspective.
- For those of you that followed the Poco saga I am glad to report he is OFF the prednisone and seems completely recovered. I’m still undecided about changing Veterinarian’s and how I will proceed.
- I think no planning on leaving this weekend for DC and spending a week between our place out there and visiting our daughter in NC. Baby news….Cora is now 9 months old and she’s walking! I haven’t seen her walk yet so am excited about spending time in NC (as is hub).
- My fall allergies are really kicking in, the aching head, coughing and sneezing, hoarse voice I’ve got it all. Thank you to the pharmaceutical companies that make Allegra-D and Singulair, your products makes my life bearable during allergy season.
- And to the little boy in the grocery store looking at the rows of apples (as was I) who shyly pointed to the Honeycrisp and told me, “ l like those”, good recommendation. It always puts a smile on my face when I see busy Mothers in the grocery store allowing their children to pick out fresh fruit and vegetables.
Words to Ponder
We have to ask ourselves whether medicine is to remain a humanitarian and respected profession or a new but depersonalized science in the service of prolonging life rather than diminishing human suffering.
-Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
To know a person's religion we need not listen to his profession of faith but must find his brand of intolerance. -Eric Hoffer
When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow. -Anaïs Nin
Obesity Tsunami
More than half a billion people, or one in 10 adults worldwide, are obese -- more than double the number in 1980. Obesity-related diseases account for nearly 10 percent of U.S. medical spending or an estimated $147 billion a year.
Except for smoking, obesity is now the number one preventable cause of death in this country. Three hundred thousand people die of obesity every year.

Glad Poco is doing better. It’s hard when our pets get sick.
Have fun with the grandbaby.
I too am glad Poco is better. I was almost afraid to ask.
I feel the same about the news coverage; the month is half over now and the end is in sight.
I’ve been sneezing a bit myself, but no full-on allergic situation.
What a nice story about the little boy and his favorite Honeycrisp.
Last weekend, I saw a boy who was the spitting image of Bobby in the animated King of the Hill sitcom, which was sort of pathetic.
So glad Poco is off the meds! And how wonderful that you’ll be visiting your granddaughter! I’m sure you’ll have a lovely time!
Sorry to hear of your allergies. My younger son has them during certain times of the year, and he finds eliminating all dairy products to be an immense help. Don’t know if that works for everyone, of course. Hope yours is short-lived.
Hey, Suzy and my absentee ballots came today. It’s almost over! Here’s hoping we don’t have to meet next in Canada. ;o)
So glad that Poco is back to normal. It’s a terrible feeling when our fur babies are sick.
Glad the allergies are being kept under control and lastly…….. sending my wishes for a safe trip as you visit with the family. I bet your sweet little petunia will be just as happy to see you as you are her! lol
Good to know that Poco is getting well and hopefully you’ll find a veterinarian. More importantly, hope you’ll out of your allergies.
Elections? What elections? What about the floods in Iowa that are as devastating as New Orleans and hurricane Katrina ever thought of being and, of course, our federal government and everybody else who hollered about Louisiana is strangely silent about Iowa. Where’s the help, the indignation about that? Can’t be bothered with flooded cities and countryside…have to watch the elections.
Vets and doctors and hospitals, oh my! Always a hard choice there. We were lucky to find the one decent veterinarian out the 3 or 4 in our area. Still, with a little, purebred type of guy like Poco, you always have to be careful. I’ve always gone by one main rule regarding vets and doctors. If what they give you causes problems…don’t use it (okay, not very good advice but it’s all I got
)
9 months and already walking? A this rate she’ll be riding her first bike (without training wheels no less) at the ripe old age of 2-1/2, albeit a very small one.
HAAAACHOOOOO!! (*sniff*). I dow awl do well whud yur tawhggid aboud.
Same thing happened to me with clementines and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Oh yeah, the BBC is a source I’ve always turned to when our own “report only what makes us lots of $$$” news services here in the good ol’ USA are…well…doing their usual lousy job…as usual.
Good God, aren’t I the sarcastic one today? Not any reflection on you, Elaine…just certain subjects, same one’s that rile you up.
Janeywan – thank you! I sure will
and thank your for your concern about Poco.
your quick wit and humor is always welcomed. I do like the BCC News World America, very informative.
Cilicious – another week almost down, 2 to go
Keli – for me it’s the typical fall allergens, mold and ragweed. I’ve never altered my dairy products during allergy season, maybe I should try it.
Grandalfe - I wish we had early voting here like some of the other states. NO Canada, he has to win!
Janet – thanks!! I can’t wait to see her again, will have new pics for you when I get back.
James – thank you! It’s awful when our little furry friends are sick.
Kirk – you’re on a roll today
hi elaine, good to know that Poco has recovered well
as for the election plan and the economic bailout, I was just watching the 2nd presidential debate (I know I’m super slow alright!) and the candidates are just offering their same proposed solution over and over again to fix the economy, it’s as though all America needs is just their proposed solution and viola the economy will reinvigorate itself!
have a safe trip to DC…and oh… I didn’t know you were a grandma!
Good news on Poco.
I watch the BBC news too. Trouble is these days with access to 24 hour news coverage, it’s not like it was back in the old days. Everything seems to get reported and repeated ‘ad nauseam’. I suppose the trick is to chose your channel, but watch it sparingly.
uncannyman- Greetings from Maryland, got in last evening. Down to the final 2 weeks of this election,YEAH! And yep became a Grandma on New Years Day to a beautiful little baby girl.
Judith – ‘ad nauseam’ man do you ever have that right!! I agree, people need to listen to what’s important and then turn the channel or find something to do. Thanks for stopping in.
