A Week Later

Sorry for my absence but boy what a week it was! The end to the nastiest election I have seen in my lifetime. We had a few days to bask in the victory of President Elect Obama, and watch the fallout from the GOP. I was surprised that Sarah Palin’s plane hadn’t even hit cruising altitude level before FOX News started bashing her lack of intelligence. Wow, what a way to treat your candidate.

More fallout from the Automotive Industry and AIG. Circuit City fails, DHL pulls out of the United States, devastating another town in Southern Ohio. Where will it end?  I honestly feel sorry for either candidate to inherit this mess.

So here I was a week ago a balmy 70° in November! Unheard of in Michigan. But boy it sure was nice while it lasted. For my regular readers do you remember last winter when Poco the 7 month old Chihuahua puppy going from summer to snow? It was rough! I had to shovel snow in the grass just so he could “go”. Many a time I stood outside in the freezing weather and snow flying urging him to go and make it quick! (Often times in my jammies.)

Nov10-08

All day Sunday we had bouts of ice pellets and snow showers which did not stick thankfully. However, Monday morning I woke up to this picture when I opened the back garage door to let him out.  He honestly looked at me as if to say, “this again”. Yes, this is just a dusting Poco, you were too young to remember what’s yet to come.

What else? I’m trying to get tickets for the Inauguration but not holding my breath. To any of those looking on sites selling tickets you’re wasting your money and being scammed. To get a REAL ticket which are FREE  you need to contact your Senators and Representatives and be put on a list.  The tickets aren’t even printed yet. So we’re on the list….. it will be interesting to see what happens. On the upside his job is in the DC burbs and we have an apartment there so even if we don’t get tickets I will still plan on going out.

I’m leaving again in 2 weeks for DC…we fly out to San Antonio for an Andrea Bocelli concert, hubby’s surprise gift to me for our anniversary back in August. Yes, he does listen to me as I have often said, “I would love to see him in concert”.

Poco is going to DCDoggies in Washington DC, for the few days while we’re in Texas.  We met the owner in Georgetown when I was there last month. When we get back to DC after the concert it’s straight on to North Carolina for Thanksgiving which Sarah works, as she did last year. This is her last year of Residency though so her weekends at the hospital will be coming to an end. It will be baby Cora’s First Thanksgiving, then First Christmas so this holiday season will be exciting for us.

A closing Veterans Day Quote:

“Let us rededicate ourselves to keep a sacred trust with all who have worn the uniform of the United States of America: that America will serve you as well as you have served your country.”

President Elect Barack Obama

I went to the Andrea Bocelli site after reading your post and after the site loaded, he started singing and scared our young female cat (who was sleeping on the computer desk next to a speaker) out of her ever lovin’ mind. Guess she doesn’t appreciate fine opera. :D

Found your comment over at Margaret & Helen’s blog and wandered on over. Speaking of Sarah Palin, I just want that annoying voice to recede into the distance. I don’t think I can handle it anymore. It was like fingernails grating against a chalkboard for me. I will never ever be able to hear the old boys’ rendition of “you betcha” again without envisioning this woman who I swear to you (at age 51and of sound mind here) was NOT of our gender. I love Helen. My blogging friend also thinks (as someone else commented along these lines) that Helen is some college-age boy taking us for a ride. I am not quite the skeptic she is. I told her I “choose” to believe in Helen because I like the whole concept. Your thoughts?

@Kirk M: LOL sorry it disturbed the Feline. Actually Bocelli is not truly opera, he’s Classical crossover, operatic pop whatever that means ;-)

@Brenda Kula: Thanks for stopping by. About Palin, I thought she might drop out of sight for awhile but evidently not. She’s on TV giving interviews everywhere! We have not seen the last of her. I still wonder are those kids ever going to get back to school? Education is not high on her list of priorities for her children it seems.

I love Margaret & Helen’s blog! I have wondered if it’s being written by someone else. I guess my feeling is similar to yours, and to be honest I’m not sure it matters. She says what a lot of people think but are too polite to voice outside family or friends. I will keep reading as long as she keeps writing.

You’ve got a balmy 70 degrees and believe it or not, here in California we have a cool 70 degrees after highs in the eighties last week! What a fall! And what an excellent mommy you are to Poco. In your jammies? Wow!
Best of luck in getting your FREE inauguration tickets! Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

  6. Gandalfe says:

Elaine, sounds like you could use a lighter moment. From my blog post today:

Heard the other day, “81% of the Republicans want to continue to back Sarah Palin going forward and maybe advance her as the presidential candidate in 2010. 100% of the democrats support this.” :o )

  7. mall says:

well, everywhere there are some posts about obama. I’m really glad for such victory. It is tremendous. Hope we will live next several years in country with smart president.

  8. Rhea says:

Although it was over a week ago now, I am still sky-high over the results in the presidential race. In my neighborhood of Boston people were out in the streets and high-fiving every stranger they met.

  9. Elaine says:

Keli – I would LOVE to get tickets for the Inauguration but not holding my breath. (think positive Elaine)
Grandalfe – sounds like a plan to me ;-)
    Mall - I agree!
Rhea – How nice for you! The county where I live is GOP and those voting for Obama did not talk about it publicly unless they knew who they were talking to.

  10. mary-Anne Horton says:

Elaine I sure hope you get your tickets to the inauguration of Barac Obama, but if you don’t at least you got tickets to see Andria Bocelli
which I know you will enjoy he has such a wonderful voice. however your greatest plans will be to spend Cora’s firsth Thanksgiving and Christmas with her, I am sure Sarah will be home for the wonderful dinner you will be cooking for them……..You sure are doing a lot of travelling this year have a safe and happy time……I will miss you………..

  11. Bill says:

I’ve personally been amazed at the cross-party voting that’s happened for Obama. I know he’s deeper than this, but his “looks like a president” presence, and stellar speaking skills seem to have resonated in a way that hasn’t been seen in some time.

Pretty easy to visualize in my neighborhood that was *exclusively* covered in Bush signs four years ago, now with a 10-15% sprinkling of Obama/Biden signs in the yards.

  12. Britney says:

well, I personally think that Obama will be good president. He is more accountable and, to tell you the truth, smarter than Bush Jr. I hope Obama will stop this stupid wars and will take care about our American finance :)

obama is my favoraite……….long live obama
