In the Dad’s defense my nephew wears shorts all year. My sister cannot get him to put on pants at all and it has always been this way. She got tired of fighting with him and just conceded defeat.
While my daughter wears skirts and sandals to school and we live in a mountain ski town. The tourist think she is off her rocker. Some kids are just hot natured and sometimes you get tired of fighting with them.

I can’t believe you have snow! Temps here yesterday were around 80 degrees!
My pet peeve #14 involves parents who dress themselves warmly when it’s cold out and forget about their kids! I can’t tell you how many I see who bundle themselves up and then carry children with bare heads and feet. What are they thinking? Ah yes, even stupers (short as you know for unbearably stupid persons) have kids!

Laoch - yes it is! Brenda - good point! I've been known to give a disapproving glance too when the parents won't. Julie - I was the same way when my kids were little, and NOPE that does not make you mean or bossy, just a caring Mom of your children's playmates. Cilicious - maybe he didn't realize how cold it was? Who knows? I just wish he had taken a few seconds to make coat was zipped. Mary Anne - Good for you! I bet she was a first time Mom and still uncertain what to do and not do.

something similar happened to me last summer in costco. a woman had her baby wrapped up like it was 30 below with blankes all around her and weather was like 80F if more so I mentioned to her that babies feel the heat just as we do, so maybe she should shed a couple of the blankets which she did so and even thanked me for telling her that………

Sometimes you really do wonder what is going on in people’s heads.
Well at least he was holding her hand. I have certainly corrected misbehaving kids and clueless parents but I try to “catch them being good” too.

I know, Elaine… My kids have other kids who come play with them in our yard. Sometimes they won’t have coats on, or even shoes. I always just talk to them like I would my own kids, and tell them to go home and get their shoes on, or get their jackets on. I’m sure every kid in the neighborhood thinks I am bossy and mean, but I can’t deal with it. If their own parents won’t pay enough attention to tell their child to do these things, then I will! This happens at other times, too, like you mentioned at the store. I guess once a mother, you do tend to have those maternal feelings, even when it isn’t your own child.

Well, I don’t really know. I’m one of those who typically mutters something when people allow their children to misbehave in public and they ignore the fact. Or I end up telling children to stop running when they whip past me in the store. One said it takes a village to raise a child, so maybe we all need to allow our input!
