An Early Thanksgiving Post

Wow what a busy week this has been getting ready to leave tomorrow. This trip has a lot of logistics to work out, flying/driving and involves packing for 4 different locations and weather! From snow in Michigan, to 70’s in Texas, cold and no snow in DC, and chilly in North Carolina. This will be first time I’ve flown the day before Thanksgiving so I’ll be sure to pack an extra dose of patience, no doubt I’m going to need it. (mental note- remind husband to do likewise)

I am looking forward to the warmer temps in San Antonio and getting excited about  the Andrea Bocelli concert. Did I tell you that I was interviewed by a local newspaper on why we’re coming from so far away for this concert? I will post the interview once I have the email copy. From Texas it will be on to North Carolina for Thanksgiving.

With all the rush, the aggravation, the stress one thing comes to mind. Most of us  will sit down with family and friends on Thanksgiving yet there are thousands of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan protecting our freedom that will be eating in a mess hall, away from their families. Many of them doing their third or fourth tour of duty.  It doesn’t matter how we feel about the war and how it’s going. My inconveniences (and yours)  with travel, weather, colds and sniffles is insignificant.  When we reach our destinations and finally sit down to Thanksgiving dinner let’s all remember the men and women who do so much and ask so little in return.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I’ll be back in December.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I wish you safe travels, a restful holiday, an inspirational concert.
How wonderful to be all together with your family.
We have driven/flown the day before Thanksgiving many, many times.
In our experience, the airlines are fairly well prepared for the holiday onslaught; the one variable can be the weather, it can sometimes be tricky and there is not a lot you can do about that.
I have been so self-absorbed lately and I appreciate the reminder of those in the military, and the sacrifices they make.

Have a great holiday Elaine. Actually, it sounds like you’ve taken all the steps necessary to make it so. Cheers.
