"I look forward to a great future for America,
a future in which our country will match its
military strength with our moral restraint,
its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose. . . .
And I look forward to an America
which commands respect throughout the world not
only for its strength but for its
civilization as well."
-John F. Kennedy honoring Robert Frost, Oct. 26, 1963

Wise words… and I’m holding my breath till tomorrow morning.
Very fitting indeed.
I hope we awaken to a new beginning tomorrow.
@Karen: I will send you emails tonight as results come in so you can read first thing in the morning over in Germany.
@cilicious: Me Too!!! I am hopeful.
Quite a scene last night!
@Laoch:I thought you would be there! Lucky lucky you! I would have loved to be a part of that historical moment.
great quote however it should read America earns the respect of other Countries not demand it.
PS: I was so happy that Obama won last night, I do think he will earn the respect of all countries.
Maybe we’ll see JFK, Jr. on the Obama administration? I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Bill Clinton in a bigger role than advisor, but that probably won’t happen.
As a complete and almost irrelevant aside, I love Robert Frost, not so much for his poetry, but more so for his persistence. He was told through his childhood and even much of his adult life, that he wouldn’t amount to much (from his own mother even). Nothing could sway him from writing his poems. As for the Kennedy quote, we must look forward to a great future!
Hi Elaine…
Good to see that you are still sharing. May this comment find you all well…
I for one am thankful the election is over and actually became very disappointed in how some who are so smart acted, spoke, and reported in such a stupid way.
These are definitely times that we need to pull together to turn things around.
Have a wonderful weekend and safe travels…Greg
Mary Anne – He already has more respect from foreign leaders than our current President, hopefully it will continue to grow once he takes over the office and works to restore our image in the world.
Grandalfe- JFK, Jr? You mean RFK, Jr? There is talk of him being considered for the Environmental Protection Agency which he would be well suited for. Also talk of Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, in what capacity I have no idea.
Keli – I did not know that about Robert Frost and his background. You can tell by his poetry that depression played a role in what he put to words. No doubt he was a troubled but brilliant man. Thanks for sharing that!
Greg – long time no see, I wondered what happened to you. I’m on a new computer and everything (links, bookmarks) didn’t make it to this one. Will pop in and see what you’ve been up to.
What simple, yet wise words. I really do hope that all the optimism of the last few days can be projected into the future. There is no doubt that things are bad and we all need to pull together. It is very important to have a positive attitude.
