I’m Not Making This Up

The night before the election the phone is ringing and the flyers are being delivered.  On the Democratic side the phone calls are from a real person and the flyer put on the front door handle is hung by a person who took the time to walk up my driveway to the front door. On the Republican side the phone calls are automated, Mike Rogers for Congress you’ve been calling my house for a week with your automated message.

Minutes ago my husband was walking down the steps from the upstairs office. The front door in the foyer has partial windows on each side allowing you to see outside. He pauses for a second as he see’s a vehicle by the mailbox and calls out to me in the kitchen:

Honey, There’s a Hummer at our mailbox, it must be the McCain people.

He let’s Poco out and they walk down to the mailbox only to return with a package of literature for John McCain, Sarah Palin, and of course Mike Rogers, delivered by a guy driving a Hummer. Only in Michigan where the economy is so bad, automotive industry about to fold will you find the GOP still driving their Hummers.

I’m married to a Republican, so our house gets all sorts of calls & mailings. The robocalls from GOPers are ahead of Dem calls 3 or 4 to 1.

    Guess they’re a little nervous…

@Kelster93: As I voted today, old 23 from Brighton to M-59 were lined with McCain and Rogers signs. This is the first time I did not vote for Rogers and the GOP.

Automated calls and Hummers delivering the propaganda. Now that”s the way to create an impression! Not a good impression but an impression nonetheless.

  4. I guess they didn’t do so well with that idea that the fundamentals of our economy are strong? We get all of the mailings and phonecalls here since I’m a republican (not practicing) and my better half is in the teacher’s union. It just seemed like the Republicans were one part completely out of touch and one part playing on fear.

The Bush economy is great! Obama loves terrorists! I’m glad it didn’t work, but I don’t have much expectation for Obama so I won’t end up disappointed again.

  5. Keli says:

I didn’t notice this, but I have to admit, the only live callers were from the Democratic side. Very interesting!

  6. Elaine says:

Kirk – it definitely made an impression ;-
John – call me an optimist, but it has to be better than what we currently have.
Keli – apparently I’m not the only one (or you). Reading post election results and analysis people are saying the same. Good strategy that payed off for President Elect Obama.

Do the robocalls work? I’ve never listened to one all the way through. Mine were all from the Republicans but had the Dems called I’d have hung up on them too.
