  1. Laoch says:

Thank God these foods are only bad for women!

  2. Elaine says:

    Laoch -LOL good point.

  3. cilicious says:

    LOL Laoch
I actually am surprised at the amount of calories and sodium in #5.
But I am in no danger of eating at any of those places.

  4. Dave says:

Hmm…. should be bad for men too..>!

  5. JC says:

Not to advocate a nanny state, but I do think there’s an obligation for disclosure on the menus if restaurants are serving foods with outrageous calorie counts.

  6. All these meals are high in calories but sometimes, I like to splurge. In that case, I do eat less than is served and don’t even think of asking for a dessert. And yes, it’s best to prepare the salmon in your own kitchen…

  7. Keli says:

Thank goodness I steer clear of all of these places. But I am curious as to what they do to the salmon in #1 to make it off limits. I like salmon! This was good to know!

  8. Elaine says:

Cilicious – I steer clear of that restaurant! It comes up on worst list all the time.
Dave – yeah…these are just as bad for men.
JC - that would be nice!! Hopefully we will see that happen someday.

  9. Elaine says:

Keli - this is what the article said about the salmon dish: (makes me wonder how other restaurants grill their salmon, I order salmon all the time)

There may be a few foods with more calories, but after wading through hundred of menus we can honestly say that there is no entrée in America as misleading as this frightening fish dish from Outback. Its description—a “seasoned and grilled fillet with fresh steamed veggies”—sounds like textbook healthy eating, a nutritious island in a sea of steak and stuffed potatoes, but what emerges from the kitchen is a plate that packs more calories than eleven orders of onion rings from Burger King. What happens to the poor fish behind closed kitchen doors is anyone’s guess (bacon-grease bath? Melted-butter injections?), but the end result should be avoided at all costs. Add on a serving of bread and butter and a simple side salad, and you’re topping the charts at nearly 2300 calories—more than any other item on our list.

  10. Janet says:

I, too, am amazed at Outback’s Salmon entree. Wow. Who woulda thought?

  11. Keli says:

Gross! Thanks for the gruesome details!

  12. Elaine says:

Janet – exactly! you think you’re ordering something healthy and it’s heart attack on a plate.
    Keli - you’re welcome :-)

Personally I favor JC’s suggestion! Restaurants need to provide more nutritional information.

  13. Mary Ellen says:

Wow some of these surpeised me, although we really dont eatout much since we both work differnt shifts, little tough. Guess home cooking is the best way to go.

  14. Seafood says:

I was surprised to see salmon top the list as it is one of the most healthy foods on the planet. The list of omega 3 fish oil benefits is a long one.
    .-= Seafood´s last blog ..Cioppino – a Classic Italian Seafood Stew =-.

    • Elaine says:

It was referring to one salmon dish prepared at outback steakhouse. Salmon by far is very healthy and should be part of diet. The bottom line is you must be aware of how it is prepared when ordering out.
