Someone asked me this week what I recommended for a sure fired way to lose weight. My response:
The only sure fired way to lose weight is move more and eat less.
Somehow I don’t think that was the answer they were looking for.

It’s a simple equation really. Not that I can do it. But I know it’s really very simple. Since I love gardening, I just hope I expend a lot of calories while doing it!

Brenda – Sometimes the simplest solutions are the often the hardest for people.
that is right on
Laoch – but not always easy, but what good things in life come easy? It always takes work and dedication I think.
That’s what I always suggest too. It seems to have longer-lasting results than some of the other things people try.
Delmer – I have seen people try so many diets, have so many excuses why they can’t…..(fill in blank) when most of the time the answer is obvious but it’s not the one they want to hear.
How true. It’s the only technique that’s proven to work every time. I’ve seen it in action myself more than once. Just goes to show that people are always their own worst problem.
Elaine, that is so true! I have been working out at the gym for the past 3 weeks and I gained 5 pounds. Need to think more on the other side of the equation, I think.
Thank you so much for your exceptionally nice comments about my new website. I am so thrilled to have you visiting me there!
Also, this is a WordPress blog as well, isn’t it? If so, is that a plugin or widget that has the box to check to be notified of follow up comments via email?
Liz, I sent you an email with the information on the plugin. About the weight gain, keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you’ve been working out you could be building muscle. If you’re trying to lose weight though you probably do need to look at your caloric intake.
Exactly! Eat less and exercise more! Excellent advice!
Instead of looking for all those miracle fad diets that never work people should just stick with the simple old concept – if you eat more than you burn you gain weight if you eat less than you burn you lose it. Sure some stuff (veggies, chicken breast) are better then others (cakes, fastfoods) but as long as you eat enough protein and essential vitamins it doesn’t matter if the rest of calories comes from cookies or fruits.
Well, I need to do both. A lot.
Ha! That’s NEVER the answer they are looking for! The ones who already eat well and exercise don’t ask the question. The question is generally from people who are looking for some magical easy way.
there are lots of ways to lose weight. i don’t think eating less will help you lose weight. it will make you hungry and will eat more. eat organic food. for me that’s the best way to keep you healthy and lose weight. you must be dedicated on what you are doing to achieve your goals.
So true! Losing weight is hard work – the equation is simple you need to take in fewer calories than you burn up. As most of us have acquired unhealthy eating behaviours over a lifetime, its not easy to change these patterns, but the good news is that it can be done! Change one bad habit every day, and gradually change to a healthier lifestyle, and you will lose weight, and keep it off.
