Janet, you're probably already doing 10,000 a day just with the job you have. About the older generation in your family...exactly! Same as many families, they ate healthy, didn't have the junk food that we have now, lived a more active life, less sitting on the couch and doing nothing. The older generation worked HARD, they didn't have all the modern conveniences that make our life so easy.

75 % in another 6 years? I certainly hope that prediction doesn't come true. Aren't we, as a country, becoming more aware of obesity and better nutition? It certainly seems like we are taking a step forward even in our schools.

As for walking.... I do a mile or so a few times a week on the treadmill. And walk the dog. But I'm on my feet at my job all night, so there's days when I'm just too tired and don't do either.
And you know, I can't help but think of the older generation in my family who, pretty much, all lived to be in their 90's. They certainly didn't walk all these miles, BUT! They DID eat healthy and obviously didn't over indulge.

Bottom line if we are gaining weight is that we are taking in more calories than we are using. And we have to take it from there. lol

Brenda - good luck with everything. It's hard to lose! I know.

What makes me mad and sad at the same time are the number of parents giving their young children pop/soda! You go to the grocery store and see carts filled with it and young chubby children in tow. Then they grow up to be fat kids addicted to pop.

Brenda I'm glad your walking partner is back! I know it's harder to get out there and do it alone. Once it warms up I take Poco and for a small dog he can do 3 miles with no problems. Hang in there, hope you get back to your old walking routine.

If you mean 75% obesity rate by 2015, it's damn scary!

I have gained nearly two pounds since my walking partner left town for a month. She just came to the door to pick me up, but I can't leave because I'm waiting on a big piece of furniture to be delivered to my husband. Boy, that walk sure would have helped my pretty constant back pain. I've been overweight for years. I do take medication that I know causes this to be worse. But I'm not giving up my anti-depressants!
