NYC Most Aggressive Drivers

Is your city in the top 5 for most aggressive drivers? According to a new report New York has overtaken Miami to be voted the U.S. city with the angriest and most aggressive drivers.

Miami topped the annual poll for the last four years but voters in 25 major metropolitan areas gave New Yorkers the prize for angriest, most aggressive drivers who tailgate, speed, honk their horns, overreact and lose their tempers.

road-rage Dallas/Fort Worth came in second as the worst road rage city followed by Detroit, Atlanta and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Miami ranked a distant seventh.

Baltimore, Sacramento and Pittsburgh rounded out the top five cities with the most pleasant drivers.

Portland and Cleveland were voted to have the most courteous, considerate drivers.

I was surprised that Los Angeles wasn’t on the list, with a city that large and all the commuting one would think the drivers would be aggressive. Maybe it’s all that gorgeous weather, makes you in a better mood even when the jerk in front of you  is driving like an idiot.

Hmmm, yup! Another fine reason for not driving in New York City. Glad I never have. I’d like to visit just once though hopefully along with a native guide who can throw their finger at other natives at the appropriate and proper times. I’m sure I’d never get it right. :D

I learned to drive in NYC and found it very stressful.

“Maybe it’s all that gorgeous weather, makes you in a better mood even when the jerk in front of you is driving like an idiot”…lol..rofl…completely agree with you!..in fact its the only reason helping the drivers world wide to keep their cool!

I have driven in New York before. It truly is crazy!
    Mexico City is WAY worse!

Now here in Winston-Salem, which is a much, much smaller city, everyone is very polite. I prefer the polite pace and mood!

No way I would ever drive in Mexico City…

Yep I hear you about the south, life is a bit slower and people a bit friendlier than you find in many northern and eastern cities.

This just terrifies me! And how many are on their cell phones also? (My ultimate pet peeve…)

Brenda most major cities have laws that require hands free driving and to get caught driving holding a cell phone to one’s ear results in a hefty fine. I’ve been driving in DC for several years and always have my phone…but using a bluetooth, another city with hefty fines for that offense or driving in the HOV lane with only one person in the car (as I almost found out).

None of those places are as bad as driving in Rome, Italy (I wasn’t driving, my husband was; he and the boys threw me whimpering into the back seat.)
I think your analysis of LA is spot on.

    • Elaine says:

No way would I even consider driving there and I have driven in many major cities. Call me a taxi if I’m ever in Rome or London or several other European cities that come to mind. Good thing your husband was driving.

  7. Gandalfe says:

Seattle drivers are usually so polite that it can be hard to get one to go at a four-way stop. Now, if we could just teach them to use turn signals. Being laid back is one thing, but that’s just crazy.

  8. Keli says:

I am totally shocked that Los Angeles isn’t on the list. I have witnessed many an aggressive driver so I think there must have been some sort of bribery going on with this list. I can barely cross a busy street during a green light and in the cross walk without making some driver angry at me for crossing! To me that’s aggression! Good thing I don’t carry a firearm.

I know it’s not the same scale — but Eddyville, Kentucky has to have the most courteous drivers. Everybody I passed waved to me … and I was visiting my parents — they had no idea who I was.

I imagine like-sized cities in all the states are the same.
