The Year Without Summer

Most of you have heard me complain all winter about the frigid temps and constant snowfall. Then came spring…well sort of, in name only. It never really did get warm except for a few days. Now we’re almost half way through June and it’s still not warm! Our heat hasn’t been turned off yet, in fact it’s still kicking in some mornings. Yesterday I was back in jeans, long sleeves and a light fleece INSIDE the house! Makes me wonder will it even get warm enough to switch on the AC this summer? Should I start a poll? What day and month?

Below is a map that was on an evening newscast discussing the colder than average temperatures and what to expect this summer. Of course I’m in an area of VERY COOL, duh, like I’ve haven’t known that for the last few months this summer was going to suck. How depressing.

For all of you in a warm place this summer, want some company? I promise to be a good guest, quiet, neat, will even help with cooking :-}

Yesterday it was 95 in the shade.
    Today more of the same.
    Come on down!

    • Elaine says:

Well 95 in the shade is a bit too hot for me lol. How bout we give each other about 15 degrees and then we’ll each have perfect weather! If I ever make it down your way would love to sit out on the dock have a glass of Chardonnay with you.

  2. Keli says:

I would invite you over, but we seem to be experiencing some sort of “June gloom” ourselves at the moment. No sun until about noon and then it last for about 45 minutes before disappearing again! Hawaii’s looking good these days!

  3. CindyG says:

Sorry Elaine, but I don’t share the same feelings about summer as you do. There’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing the cooler than normal forecast. :)

    • Elaine says:

What I like about living in the North are the beautiful summers. We had similar weather in upstate NY that we have here in MI. Not a lot of humidity, warm days and nights cool down. I just want some average temps. Glad this is perfect weather for you though :-)

  4. Laoch says:

    This is so depressing!

  5. Mary Walker says:

Can’t help you since I am suffering with the same cooler than normal temps. Mom just this week remarked that we just hadn’t had any real summer yet. The weather people have said that we have only had two days this month where the temps touched the 80 degree mark–far fewer than normal.

  6. delmer says:

The cooler temps have made for some good sleeping weather.

We’ve had the AC on just once so far.

  7. Julie says:

We too have had a cooler than average spring so far. We finally turned on the AC, but it was mostly to knock out the humidity in the house. We have had a couple of days that were 90, but overall, it is not bad. TONS of rain and humidity, though.

  8. Elaine says:

Mary – Your Mom is right!
Delmer – You’re much warmer in Ohio than we are in MI., or at least the Ohio weather I follow where I still have family (Dayton area). But I do agree, it’s great sleeping weather.
Julie – Someone else from your part of the country was telling me how humid it’s been, that in itself can be miserable.

  9. Brenda Kula says:

Come on down to Texas, Elaine! You and I would have a ball! I have a guest room all ready and waiting. Do you mind if Clyde sleeps with you? He’s kind of partial to the end of that bed (and the dogs chase him off of mine.) It was so hot last night I had to turn the temperature up so the air conditioning would finally click off for awhile. It had been running for hours. Oh, and there’s bank construction across the street. But the guest room is on the opposite side of the house at the other end, so you’re good.
    Brenda

  10. Elaine says:

Brenda – You’re right we would have a ball! And if I ever get down to Texas (your part) you can be sure I’d like to meet you, thanks for the invitation. And ….nah, Clyde won’t bother me.

  11. Janet says:

Interesting. Connecticut isn’t in the cool or very cool blue area, but it’s the same here pretty much. Cool with much too much rain! I feel sorry for the campers around here and there are quite a few who spend their vacas in state parks or by the shore.
Oh well….. I could get used to this actually except for the wet. ;-)

  12. Paul Yeager says:

While it’s been cooler than normal in parts of the country, we can’t really call it a year without a summer. The true year without a summer, 1816, was incredible, with snow in parts of the Northeast in June, and a season-ending freeze in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions in August.
