Here in Canada you do not have to go to your doctor to get the H1N1 shot, they have opened up hockey arenas etc as a clinics for anyone who wants a shot may go there and get it, and it is free. however there are lineups for those wanting to get the shot, first it was for children, pregnant women and those with cronic medical disorders, then for the general public,,,,,I have just had my seasonal flu shot from my doctor, and anyone over the age of 65 are not a priority to get the H1N1 shot as they have already been exposed to it years ago & there for don’t really need it, however if they wish to get it they can….

I think the disease is rampant in every state now. And it is deadly. It is way past time to “sit on the sidelines.” If you are lucky enough to have access to the vaccine, you should take it by all means.

I heard today there is one reported case of Acute Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (Guillain Barré) following a swine flu vaccine. I haven’t heard of any deaths from the vaccine. So that’s one bad side effect from the vaccince vs 4,000 deaths from the disease itself. Should you get the vaccine? DUH!!!

Kimmy I have NO concerns, it’s made the same way the annual flu shot is – from eggs with the exception of the nasal spray vaccine which is given to infants over 6 months old. For those with asthma getting sick with H1N1 could very well land you in a hospital which is why I’m getting it. I’ve never heard you talk about any chronic health conditions so I’m not sure you even fall into one of the target groups?

Wow that’s a LOT of people. Do you have any concerns with the vaccine Elaine? I’m one of those who want to sit back and see what happens for awhile before I consider getting it.

Welcome! I gave up trying to get it through my doctors office, they had such limited supplies. I contacted my county Health Dept., and at first they were giving it to the target group those 18 yrs of age and under. Then last week they announced those over 18 with a chronic health condition (I have asthma). I get my shot tomorrow at 2:30 and am so relieved! Did you google your county health department? All the ones I’ve seen have up to date information on who they’re giving it to and when. Good luck!

This is scary stuff, Elaine. I’m supposed to get the H1N1 vaccine, but my health provider ran out of it within a few days, and no more as of this morning.
